Log on to Alive and Thrive!
A new website to provide information for disabled people on how to live healthier and more active lifestyles is being launched this month.
The Alive and Thrive website features a wealth of information for all disabled people on subjects such as staying active, exercise and healthy eating.
The site contains downloadable information from the Alive and Thrive Action Pack which has been produced by the Suffolk Disability and Health Action Group, (SDHAG). The group which is a partnership of disability organisations with representation from the Primary Care Trusts in Suffolk, was established in 1997 to promote the good health of disabled people.
The pack was produced after research identified that there was very little information available that encouraged disabled people to become more active and live a healthier lifestyle. Therefore the group decided to produce its own range of information sheets.
Linda Hoggarth, chairman of disability charity Optua, who are members of SDHAG, said: “It has been clearly shown that, for disabled people any activity, even the smallest amount, can improve their health and enhance their quality of life. This pack contains a great deal of useful information and I’d encourage anyone with a disability to take a look.”
Julia Clough of the Papworth Trust, also members of SDHAG, said: “This website is a great opportunity for people to have the choice to access information independently from home, their local library or internet café. Easy access to information is essential for everyone in all aspects of their lives. The websites offers advice and information to assist people in leading a healthy lifestyle.”
The website can be found at www.aliveandthrive.org.uk and the Alive and Thrive pack is also available to download in a large text version.
